Air Liquide has completed its 2022-2025 ADVANCE strategic plan with significant progress across climate, healthcare and social performance, reinforcing its approach of integrating sustainability with long-term business growth.
Air Liquide Group delivered a notable environmental breakthrough in 2025, cutting CO2 emissions by 13 percent compared to 2020 and achieving its emissions inflection point ahead of schedule. Carbon intensity declined by 46 percent from 2015 levels, well beyond the 30 percent reduction target set for 2025.
Over the five-year period, total emissions reduction surpassed 5 million tonnes of CO2, highlighting sustained decarbonization momentum. A key driver of this progress was the expansion of low-carbon electricity sourcing, which accounted for 40 percent of total energy consumption in 2025 and enabled the avoidance of 2.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually compared to 2020.
Air Liquide is improving operational efficiency across its production assets to cut energy use and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Key measures include electrifying steam-driven Air Separation Units, particularly in China, along with asset reconfiguration initiatives. These efforts resulted in a reduction of 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year compared to 2020.
At the same time, Air Liquide scaled up advanced technologies including carbon capture and storage, electrolysers and ammonia cracking, positioning itself as a key enabler of industrial decarbonization. Water stewardship also reached a milestone, with water management plans fully deployed across all 75 priority sites in water-stressed regions.
“We reduced CO2 emissions by more than 5 million tons since 2020. Sustainability remains a core strategic driver for performance and resilience as Air Liquide moves into 2026, continuing to translate its ambitions into tangible benefits for customers, society and the environment,” Diana Schillag, Executive Committee Member supervising Sustainability, said.
Air Liquide’s investment strategy focuses on long-term growth, energy transition, and high-return industrial projects, with capital allocation closely aligned to its ADVANCE plan. The Group maintains a disciplined approach, prioritizing investments that combine financial performance with sustainability impact.
Between 2022 and 2025, Air Liquide made €16.9 billion in investment decisions, exceeding its initial target, reflecting strong execution and an expanding project pipeline. In 2025 alone, investment decisions reached around €4.2 billion, while the company continued to build a robust backlog of projects to support future revenue growth.
A significant portion of investments is directed toward the energy transition, particularly low-carbon hydrogen, carbon capture, and electrification. Air Liquide plans to invest approximately €8 billion in hydrogen infrastructure by 2035, aiming to scale up renewable hydrogen production and capture growing industrial demand. Large-scale projects, including electrolyzer developments and hydrogen supply chains in Europe and the United States, illustrate this strategic shift toward clean energy.
In healthcare, Air Liquide expanded its global footprint in home care services, supporting 2.3 million patients with chronic diseases across more than 30 countries. Personalized care solutions continued to gain traction, with 64 percent of patients benefiting from tailored treatment programs.
Air Liquide Group’s Access Oxygen initiative has provided essential oxygen services to nearly 3.4 million people in emerging markets such as South Africa, Senegal, Kenya and Mali since 2017, addressing critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure.
Air Liquide advanced its social commitments by strengthening employee welfare and inclusion. A unified care coverage framework was implemented for 100 percent of employees in 2024, ahead of target, ensuring access to health benefits, life insurance and maternity support worldwide. Gender diversity improved steadily, with women accounting for 34 percent of managers and professionals, up by 4 percent since 2020. Employee participation in community initiatives reached full coverage, with all staff able to engage in volunteering programs through the “Citizen at work” platform.
With these achievements, Air Liquide has demonstrated that combining financial discipline with sustainability initiatives can deliver measurable impact, enhance resilience and create long-term value as the company moves forward with its next phase of strategic development.
