The Telangana government has started the reverse bidding process for setting up 1,000 MW of solar PV power generation farms in the state, as reported by The Hindu Business Line.

The tenders are likely to be invited within 10-15 days.Bidders offering prices lower than the last developed solar project of ₹6.45 a unit will only be entertained.

Earlier, the government had finalized tenders to offer 505 MW of solar power projects for development and the new tender will offer 1,500 MW for development.

The Telangana government has set a target of 5,000 MW solar energy projects over the next 4-5 years. The entire projects will be ready by March 2016.

In addition, major public utilities including NTPC have come forward to develop big solar PV units.

The developer has to acquire land on his own and for NTPC, the government will acquire land and allot it for development, explained, Aravind Kumar, principal secretary (Energy), Telangana.

Besides, the peak summer months will have a projected shortfall of about 1,000 MW in Telangana’s power supply scenario.

Government is trying to make arrangements to bridge the gap by taking 500 MW from Kerala and generating about 250-300 MW using naptha as fuel in the gas based projects.

In addition, the commissioning of Gayatri Power plant has increased power. Efforts are under way with various Union Ministries to swap natural gas with RLNG and this will add to power generation.

NTPC has also agreed to supply another 500 MW from its unallocated pool. The transmission line constraints are being addressed, said Kumar.

In January, CEEG (Nanjing) Renewable Energy received a 30 MW contract from Enrich Energy to deploy its multi-crystalline modules in a ground-mounted project in Telangana State.

The modules will be shipped from China Sunergy’s Shanghai plant, and the shipment is expected to be completed by the end of January 2015.
