SunEdison, NEXTracker sign deal for purchase of up to 1.85 GW solar trackers

SunEdison, a manufacturer and provider of solar energy services, signed a deal with NEXTracker for the supply of up to 1.85 GW solar trackers.

As per the agreement NEXTracker will be responsible for a three -year worldwide supply of trackers under certain cost reduction measures.

Ahmad Chatila, CEO, SunEdison, said, “NEXTracker has developed a truly innovative tracker and their platform will help the system generate more power while reducing cost of ownership.”

Chatila said that company’s 73 MW upcoming solar power project in Chile can now take maximum advantage of NEXTracker product features.

Dan Shugar, CEO, NEXTracker, said the company is able to increase solar project profits up to 10 percent by eliminating many of the design, cost and performance compromises inherent in standard trackers.

Recently, SunEdison completed construction of a 24MW direct current solar power plant in California Desert, awarded under the California Renewable Auction Mechanism (RAM).

To date this is the largest project to come under RAM program and the first project constructed for San Diego Gas &Electric (SDG&E).
