Swiss solar panel manufacturer Meyer Burger announced it will implement short-time work for around 300 employees at its Thalheim site in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, starting May 1, 2025.

The company cited temporary material bottlenecks as the reason behind the move, which aims to reduce costs in the short term. The affected workers had previously been engaged in round-the-clock production of high-performance solar cells.

Management and the works council reached the agreement to introduce the reduced hours. Similar supply chain issues have also impacted operations at Meyer Burger’s facility in Goodyear, Arizona, where the production of solar modules is now alternating with technical work on a daily basis.

The U.S. site processes solar cells from Germany and is currently in a ramp-up phase. Meyer Burger also noted that additional workforce adjustments are being planned to further manage costs.
