Westlife Foodworld strengthened its sustainability performance in FY 2025-26, delivering progress in carbon reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, circular economy practices, responsible sourcing, workforce diversity and community impact.
The company reduced more than 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, achieved annual electricity savings of 19.4 million units, conserved 16 million liters of water, and diverted more than 99 percent of used cooking oil for conversion into biodiesel.
Westlife Foodworld has also committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 under the UN Climate Neutral Now initiative, supported by energy-efficiency technologies, renewable energy, sustainable sourcing and waste-reduction programs across its restaurant network.
Westlife Foodworld Cuts More Than 16,000 Tons of Carbon Emissions
Climate action remains a central pillar of Westlife Foodworld’s ESG strategy as the company works toward its 2050 net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target.
Energy-efficiency initiatives implemented across operations generated annual electricity savings of 19.4 million units during FY 2025-26. These measures contributed to a reduction of more than 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which the company estimates is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of more than 7.4 lakh mature trees.
Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the company’s decarbonization strategy. Westlife Foodworld has deployed IoT-enabled Energy Management Systems across 450 restaurants, covering 94 percent of its total outlets.
The systems enable real-time monitoring of energy consumption and help restaurants identify opportunities to optimize electricity use and operational efficiency. Westlife Foodworld aims to increase deployment to 100 percent by FY30.
The company is also pursuing rooftop solar installations, greater adoption of Piped Natural Gas, LED lighting and smart HVAC controls as part of efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of its restaurant operations.
Westlife Foodworld Saves 16 Million Liters of Water
Water conservation is another major component of Westlife Foodworld’s environmental strategy.
The company conserved 16 million liters of water during FY 2025-26 through resource-efficiency measures including waterless urinals, low-flow aerators and high-water recovery reverse osmosis systems.
These initiatives are designed to reduce freshwater consumption while improving water efficiency across restaurant operations.
More Than 99 Percent of Used Cooking Oil Converted to Biodiesel
Westlife Foodworld is expanding circular economy practices by increasing recycling, reducing waste and improving the sustainability of materials used across its operations.
During FY 2025-26, the company recycled and diverted more than 99 percent of used cooking oil through authorized partners for conversion into biodiesel. The initiative helps prevent improper disposal of cooking oil while supporting the production of an alternative fuel.
Westlife Foodworld has also achieved 100 percent elimination of single-use customer-facing plastics.
In another major sustainable packaging initiative, 100 percent of customer-facing paper packaging has transitioned to FSC-certified or recycled materials, strengthening responsible material sourcing and reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
More Than 99 Percent Local Sourcing Supports Sustainable Supply Chain
Responsible sourcing forms an important part of Westlife Foodworld’s strategy to build a resilient supply chain and address environmental impacts beyond its direct operations.
The company maintained more than 99 percent local sourcing within India for core food ingredients, raw materials and packaging supplies. Local sourcing can help shorten supply chains while supporting domestic suppliers and reducing transportation requirements.
Westlife Foodworld also reported 100 percent sustainable sourcing for three key high-impact commodities — palm oil, coffee and fish.
The responsible procurement strategy complements the company’s broader efforts to address supply-chain sustainability and Scope 3 emissions.
ESG Governance Strengthened Through Independent Assurance
Westlife Foodworld’s sustainability roadmap is led by Vice-Chairman Amit Jatia, with environmental and social performance overseen through the company’s Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Committee.
The governance framework integrates ESG considerations into business decision-making while monitoring sustainability objectives and progress.
Westlife Foodworld also secured independent Reasonable Assurance for BRSR Core Indicators from SGS India Private Limited, strengthening transparency and confidence in its sustainability disclosures.
Amit Jatia said environmental consciousness remains a cornerstone of Westlife Foodworld’s business philosophy, with the company seeking to combine economic growth with ecological responsibility. The strategy includes eliminating avoidable waste, improving resource efficiency and embedding sustainable practices across operations.
Westlife Foodworld Sustainability Strategy Targets Net Zero by 2050
Westlife Foodworld’s FY 2025-26 ESG performance shows how energy management, water conservation, circular economy initiatives and responsible sourcing are becoming increasingly integrated into its restaurant operations.
Key achievements include more than 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions reduced, 19.4 million units of annual electricity savings, 16 million liters of water conserved, more than 99 percent of used cooking oil diverted to biodiesel, 100 percent elimination of customer-facing single-use plastics, 100 percent FSC-certified or recycled customer-facing paper packaging, more than 99 percent local sourcing and 100 percent sustainable sourcing of palm oil, coffee and fish.
The company has installed IoT-enabled Energy Management Systems across 450 restaurants representing 94 percent of outlets, with a goal of reaching 100 percent by FY30, while its longer-term climate roadmap targets net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Together, these initiatives position climate action, resource efficiency, responsible sourcing, circularity and social impact at the center of Westlife Foodworld’s long-term sustainability strategy.
