ReneSola Virtus PV modules obtain JET Certification for Japan market

Greentech Lead Asia: Chinese solar maker ReneSola announced its Virtus I and Virtus II modules have obtained JETPVm certification from the Japan Electrical and Environment Technology Laboratories (JET), a government-designated certification body responsible for factory inspections and product testing of electronic products.

The certification, a voluntary PV module scheme operated by JET, represents compliance with relevant international standards through a series of performance and safety tests as well as factory inspections.

This follows the launch of ReneSola subsidiary in Japan earlier this year. ReneSola has also applied for its products to be listed by the Japan Photovoltaic Expansion Center (“JPEC”) for eligibility to receive installation subsidies from the Japanese government.

The government of Japan has announced a national feed-in tariff (FiT) for solar, creating robust public policy to drive deployment of renewable energy. The new policy effective July 2012 is driving the solar market in Japan.

Japanese solar market is expected to grow to 2.3-2.5 GW this year and 3.0GW in 2013. Japan’s new policy has mandated power utilities to pay above-market rates for electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as solar.

Xianshou Li, ReneSola’s chief executive officer, said, “Similar to JPEC listing, JET certification is considered a critical step for foreign companies entering Japan’s solar market. The application process is comprehensive with strenuous tests that ensure Japanese customers receive the safest, highest quality products.”
