JA Solar looking for module manufacturing partner in SE Asia

China-based solar energy company JA Solar is reportedly scouting for a partner in Southeast Asia to launch solar cell and module production in the region.

The company has plans to manufacture cells or modules for 400 MW capacity in the region during the second half of this year.

And the plan could be implemented earlier if the US government approves its petition for a specific duty rate.

The company had not been included in initial duty evaluation done by the US as its shipments to that country were limited during 2012 and 2013. But the company is inclined to boost its shipment to the US, which is an expanding solar energy market, if it is allocated a specific duty rate.

The company is awaiting the US government’s decision on the duty which is expected by mid-April. If JA Solar lands a partner in Southeast Asia it can keep capital expenditure at or below $ 30 million. Further, by expanding its operations to Southeast Asia, JA Solar not only hopes to increase its shipments to the US market but also to avoid anti-dumping duties.
