Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Tuesday inaugurated a 250 KW solar power plant in Kannauj.

The plant will feed two villages in Tirwa region — Fakirpura and Chanduahaar.

Kannauj is the parliamentary constituency of Dimple Yadav, the chief minister’s wife.

Congratulating the people of the two villages, Yadav said now they would get electricity not only for domestic purposes but also for commercial activities.

He said 3.65 lakh units of electricity will be generated every year. This will also bring down the carbon-dioxide emission levels.

Every household in the villages were also given two LED bulbs of 5 and 7 watt each.

Expressing hope that the quality of life of people would drastically change, Yadav said other than running 20 water pumps, the solar energy would save money as the use of diesel and kerosene would also come down.

The chief minister also said solar packs were being made available for houses under the Dr. Lohia Grameen Awaas Yojna, which will enable two LED lights and a ceiling fan to run.

Expressing happiness to see the solar power plant, Kalam batted for more electrical rickshaws as they were eco-friendly and decreased pollution.
