Smart grid solutions provider Tantalus has added more than 30 municipal and cooperative utility customers to its base over the past two years.

The development follows growth in revenue by 50 percent over back-to-back years, the company has stated.

TUNet, a smart grid communications network and applications platform produced by Tantalus, was a success.

The company is building on the success by focusing on expanding its portfolio of data-intensive, real-time applications such as prepaid metering, conservation voltage reduction and load control by the end of the year.

Peter Londa, the president and CEO of Tantalus reiterated the company’s commitment to serving the operational needs of public power utilities.

“With more than 1.1 million devices on the TUNet platform, Tantalus is positioned to expand its offering with applications that utilize our embedded distributed computing platform which is integrated at every endpoint,” Londa said.

According to Tantalus, TUNet has been remotely collecting and delivering daily and hourly meter reading from more than 10,000 legacy ERT devices into integrated utility systems such as MDMS and CIS for dynamic analysis.

Northeastern Rural Electric Membership Cooperative (NREMC) has been one of the customers of Tantalus for long.

“In 2005, Tantalus was ahead of the curve in technology development and willingness to work with us and anticipate the challenges that we might face in the future,” Andrew Mitchell, engineering supervisor for NREMC, said.

Tantalus recently expanded its corporate headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The new facility includes state-of-the-art product testing facilities, customer technical training facilities and modernized engineering labs, the company has stated.

Tantalus also has plans to expand into the Caribbean and Latin American markets.
