Power Grid Corp to take up Smart Grid City project in Firozabad, India

Greentech Lead India: Uttar Pradesh, India, has selected
the city of Firozabad to implement smart grid-smart city project that would add
a new dimension to power distribution. The Power Grid Corporation of India
(PGCIL) will take up the city on a pilot project basis.

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav gave his nod to the
proposal.

PGCIL will set up a joint venture with the UP Power
Transmission Corporation for strengthening the transmission system in the
state. The chief minister has asked to submit a detailed proposal in this
regard and assured that after receiving it, the state would take a decision within
15 days.

PGCIL also proposed developing selected cities of the
state as smart gridsmart city for strengthening the transmission system in a
phased manner. The CM in response asked R N Nayak, chairman and managing
director of the PGCIL, to come up with a detailed project report within 45
days.

The chief minister assures that the government would
extend all possible co-operation for the timely implementation of all the
company’s proposals.

Meanwhile, Power Ministry of India
is assessing proposals worth Rs 400 crore for smart grid projects, which would
be finalized early next fiscal.
