Panasonic Eco Solutions will extend its Green Tower energy solution for cellular tower and Wi-Fi sites at the Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain from March 2 to 5.

Panasonic will integrate its Lithium Ion battery and solar technology with PowerOasis’ telecommunications energy management platform to launch a Lithium Ion-based hybrid power solution.

This energy solution targets cellular towers operating on legacy infrastructure, proving how they can be combined with solar energy generation and advanced energy storage equipment.

Green Tower further provides the benefits of energy efficiency along with reduced costs to the tower operator. The outsourced, end-to-end solution is paid for by performance ability and operational savings.

In addition, the concept gives an opportunity for smart grid energy arbitrage.

The system aims various telecommunications sites having loads ranging from 50 W – 3 KW, and can be deployed easily in off-grid, unreliable grid or on-grid locations as a means of power solution.

Using analytical procedures, the solutions show actual load compared to market demand and send unused energy back to the local grid.

Satellite connectivity and wireless equipment monitoring are other benefits of the Green Tower solution.

Electricity costs in mature markets can account for up to 15 percent of total cellular network operating expenditures. In developing markets, these costs can increase up to 50 percent due to unreliable grid supply and a heavy reliance on diesel-powered generators that are also subject to fuel theft.

The energy solution offered by Panasonic is expected to address all these issues.
