Gliwice Advances Green Heat Projects with WtE and Solar Thermal Investments

Gliwice, Poland, has launched construction on two major green heat initiatives: a Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant and a solar thermal system. The WtE plant will convert non-recyclable waste into heat, reducing landfill dependence, while the solar thermal facility—with 1,000 m² of collectors—will supply clean energy to the district heating network. Backed by PLN 320 million (EUR 74 million), including EU Modernisation Fund support, this investment marks a strategic push toward carbon neutrality in municipal energy systems. The focus lies on circular economy practices, energy diversification, and climate resilience. These projects aim to cut emissions, increase energy security, and lower heating costs for citizens, positioning Gliwice as a forward-thinking city in Poland’s energy transition.

OnPath Energy Launches 40-MW Solar Project in the UK

OnPath Energy, backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has begun construction of the 40-MW Bunker’s Hill solar farm in Leicestershire, UK. The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2025, generating clean electricity for approximately 13,000 homes annually. Strategically aligned with the UK’s net-zero goals, it reflects OnPath’s investment in utility-scale solar solutions and land-use sustainability. The site will integrate biodiversity enhancements, including wildflower planting and habitat corridors. OnPath emphasizes environmental stewardship, community engagement, and long-term energy resilience. The project showcases innovative planning with ecological co-benefits, supporting the transition to renewable power. It strengthens OnPath’s growing UK pipeline while contributing to regional decarbonization and clean energy supply security.

Itochu & Kyudenko to Deploy 12-MW Battery at Saga Solar Plant in Japan

Japanese firms Itochu Corp and Kyudenko Corp will install a 12-MW/23-MWh lithium-ion battery storage system at their jointly operated Saga Sakurano solar power plant in Saga Prefecture. The facility, operational since 2014, has a 14.5-MW solar generation capacity. The battery project, scheduled for completion in fiscal year 2025, aims to stabilize output and contribute to grid resilience by storing excess solar energy and releasing it during peak demand. The investment aligns with Japan’s decarbonization strategy and power market reform. It highlights a technological shift toward hybrid solar-plus-storage models. The project enhances supply reliability, supports energy transition goals, and leverages smart control systems for efficient energy management. Kyudenko will oversee construction and operations.
