Landis+Gyr selected by Guam Power Authority for advanced metering deployment

Greentech Lead America: Smart grid technology
provider Landis+Gyr announced that Guam Power Authority (GPA), the
electric power provider for the U.S. Territory of Guam, has selected its
advanced metering solutions.

GPA has 550 megawatts of generation capacity, maintains
663 miles of transmission and distribution lines and operates 29 substations.

The electric utility has selected Gridstream
RF  advanced metering solution for its project to implement smart grid
technology. It will deploy E-350 FOCUS AX-SD meters with integrated service
switch and ZigBee capabilities to the majority of its residential customers.

The Gridstream RF network will also provide a backbone
for possible communication with other grid devices and home area network
applications in the future. In addition to this, GPA is exploring consumer
services, such as pre-pay, using advanced metering network. Gridstream’s
ability to remotely operate nd monitor other meters and network devices could
also add value for the utility.

“We have been working directly with GPA over the
past two years to help identify the ways Gridstream can meet their long-term
needs,” said Abe Ortega, vice president of International Sales and
Marketing at Landis+Gyr. “GPA will have many options for using smart grid
solutions to impact customer service, improve efficiency and manage operating
costs.”

 Landis+Gyr
is one of the top 20 smart grid ARRA awarded vendors, as per the report from
Zpryme INFOgraphic. With $56,222,792 funding, Landis+Gyr has been ranked fifth.
Top four vendors in the decreasing order of ARRA funds are: Itron $304,828,804,
Trilliant Networks Inc. $99,494,396, GE $98,668,171 and Honeywell $60,932,262.
