GridMaven deploys its Network Manager in Korean smart grid testbed

By Greentech Lead Asia: GridMaven, a division of SK
Telecom Americas, the largest wireless operator of South Korea, has completed
deployment of GridMaven Network Manager (GNM) in Korea’s Jeju Island smart grid
testbed. Jeju Island is the Korean government’s showcase $200M testbed for
demonstrating and commercializing end-to-end smart grid infrastructure.

The GNM software platform is running in the SmartPlace
Network Operations Center and enables operators to manage the testbed’s AMI,
backhaul, electric vehicle and home areas networks seamlessly. GridMaven also
will extend the viability of legacy networks to new applications with new
performance requirements, such as retail energy trading and demand response.

“GridMaven Network Manager will allow the SmartPlace
NOC to optimize network performance with a system-wide view that hasn’t been
available before. With it, we can manage massive data while maintaining grid
stability,” said Paul Moon, vice president of GridMaven.

The Jeju Island smart grid
project integrates 5 focus areas into one ecosystem including smart
homes and appliances, energy storage, electric vehicle transportation
infrastructure, renewable energy, and green buildings.

GNM leverages the resources of its parent company, SK
Telecom including over 20 years of industry-leading R&D in a
multi-network operating environment. GridMaven’s flagship product reflects the
company’s mission to provide innovative telecommunications solutions for the
smart grid.
