GE selects Trilliant Smart Grid Communications Platform for Grid IQ SaaS

Greentech Lead America: Trilliant, a global Smart Grid communications technology provider, announced that the company’s Smart Grid Communications Platform has been chosen by GE to be a part of GE’s Grid IQ Solutions as a Service (SaaS) offerings for the public power industry.

Deploying smart grid technology can pose unique challenges for public power utilities given their unique business and operating conditions. Some public power utilities may choose not to invest the capital or information technology resources necessary for integration with their own infrastructure. Others may not have the business processes and organizational expertise required to deploy new smart technology on their own, but see the need.

Grid IQ SaaS is the best choice for utilities deploying advanced smart grid solutions. With GE, public power utilities will receive the benefits of advanced smart grid deployments without the high costs and risks usually associated with owning the smart grid assets and managing the deployments themselves.

“The Trilliant Communications Platform is a powerful option for our SaaS offering,” said Mike Carlson, general manager-software solutions for GE’s Digital Energy business.  “Our end-to-end solutions, combined with the Trilliant Platform, provide our public power customers with a powerful combination to efficiently and effectively achieve their smart grid goals.”

Trilliant’s SecureMesh, part of the Trilliant Communications Platform, is a powerful combination of wireless networking technologies pre-engineered to work seamlessly together and purpose- built for the smart grid.

The Trilliant Communication Platform provides utilities with the flexibility to phase in their smart grid deployments to meet their most pressing needs first. Utilities can choose which smart grid capabilities — Smart Distribution, Smart Metering, or Smart Consumer — they want to deploy first.

The solution allows utility to deploy not only Smart Metering (AMI) today, but also delivers the flexibility to support advanced Smart Distribution applications such as Volt/VAR control, fault detection, isolation and restoration (FDIR), and other real-time distribution automation initiatives in the future.

Rob Conant, CMO at Trilliant, said, “Trilliant has successfully aligned with GE to deliver industry-leading smart grid solutions. Our advanced communications technology, combined with GE’s excellent smart grid leadership, will continue to help make our utility customers successful.”
