Greentech Lead Canada: ecobee, a provider of intelligent energy management solutions, announced its Smart Si thermostat with ZigBee Smart Energy Profile (SEP) is now compatible with Southern California Edison’s (SCE) advanced metering infrastructure network.
As a compatible home area network device, select SCE customers will be able to connect their ecobee thermostats to their Smart Meter and make informed decisions about energy usage in their homes.
As part of SCE’s limited launch of residential demand-response-capable thermostats, the ecobee Smart Si allows SCE to offer two-way communication to its customers and provides automated energy conservation to help customers save on their energy bills.
With the thermostat’s intuitive user interface, it’s simple for customers to set their personalized schedule and connect with their thermostat via a Wi-Fi connection anytime using their smartphone, tablet, or desktop. ecobee homeowners have saved an average of 21 percent on cooling annually when compared to leaving their thermostat on hold at 72°F.
To assist utilities with advancing the smart grid, ecobee is rapidly evolving its software to integrate with utilities’ infrastructure. The company recently launched its public Application Programming Interface (API) to further advance analytics and reporting and automated demand response.
ecobee works with many utilities across North America in deployment of programmable communication thermostats for residential and commercial thermostats, including Pacific Gas and Electric, National Grid, Austin Energy, Just Energy, Milton Hydro, Taylor Electric and Avista.
