CPFL Energia selects eMeter and IBM for smart meter project in Brazil

Greentech Lead America: eMeter, a Siemens Business,
announced that its eMeter EnergyIP meter data management platform has been
selected by CPFL Energia, a non state owned electric energy company in Brazil,
for a full-scale residential metering rollout in Brazil,

This project is the first Brazilian implementation of a
meter data management (MDM) solution capable of supporting a full-scale
residential metering rollout for a large utility.

The project is part of CPFL’s Tauron Smart Grid
initiative to improve its overall energy quality, operational performance and
relationship with its customers. The initiative includes smart metering, MDM,
outage management, and mobile workforce management solutions.

“CPFL Energia chose EnergyIP as the meter data
management platform based on its proven track record, extensibility to support
our multiple communication technologies and multiple operation companies. We
believe the strength in eMeter’s platform and history of proven customer
successes worldwide makes them the only energy information platform provider
able to service our current and future needs,” said Mauro Carmello,
manager of operative processes and automation at CPFL Energia.

CPFL has also selected IBM for
consulting services to meet their smart metering data management and integration
requirements.

IBM will serve as the EnergyIP system integrator,
providing consultation in governance, process design and best practices. IBM
will also manage the planning, installation and configuration of the solution,
as well as testing, go-live support and initial assisted operation.

CPFL Energia heads the distribution segment through its
eight distributors, which serve 569 municipalities in the States of Sao Paulo,
Rio Grande do Sul, Parana and Minas Gerais.

These eight distributors will take a phased approach,
initially implementing the eMeterEnergyIP
platform to support its high and medium voltage customers. EnergyIP will be
integrated with two advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems using eMeter
AMI Adapter technology, as well as the core enterprise systems for CPFL’s
operating companies.

“Our EnergyIP smart metering experts will ensure the
proper delivery of the meter data management system that will help build resiliency
and efficiency into their business while allowing a smooth and successful Smart
Grid transition,” said Guido Bartels, general manager, Energy and
Utilities industry at IBM.
