Consumers Energy Launches 250 MW Muskegon Solar, Its Largest Solar Project in Michigan

Consumers Energy has begun operations at Muskegon Solar, its largest solar power project to date, aimed at strengthening Michigan’s clean energy supply. Located on 1,900 acres at the Muskegon Resource Recovery Center, the 250-megawatt solar facility can generate enough electricity to power around 40,000 homes and businesses. The construction phase supported more than 200 jobs.

Muskegon Solar significantly expands Consumers Energy’s renewable portfolio, which also includes smaller solar projects at Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University and Cadillac, along with investments in wind, natural gas and battery storage across the state. The project features more than 550,000 solar panels installed across 5,200 rows that track the sun throughout the day, maximizing energy generation from sunrise to sunset.
