Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Waaree Energies, Trina Storage, Atlas Renewable, VERBUND, EzUrja, among others.
Waaree Energies to Build New Solar Factory in .S.
Waaree Energies, an Indian solar company, will open a new factory in the U.S. to make solar modules. The new plant will add 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, doubling Waaree’s total production in the U.S. to 3.2 GW. The company already has a factory in Brookshire, Texas, which started trial production in December 2024. This move will help meet growing demand for solar products made in the U.S. Waaree also plans to expand its solar production in India.
Trina Storage Launches New Battery System for Clean Energy
Trina Storage has released a new energy storage system called Elementa 2 Pro. It stores 5 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy and uses Trina’s own battery cells that can last up to 15,000 cycles. The system has strong safety features like fire detection and uses liquid cooling to control heat. Its design makes it easy to use in different energy projects, such as helping the power grid or storing solar and wind energy.
Atlas Renewable Energy and Colbún Sign Agreement for Battery Storage Project in Chile
Atlas Renewable Energy and Colbun have entered into a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to develop a battery energy storage system (BESS) in María Elena, Antofagasta region, Chile. The project will have a capacity of 230 megawatts (MW) and storage of 920 megawatt-hours (MWh), capable of supplying approximately 335 GWh annually — enough to power about 140,000 homes. This BESS will store surplus renewable energy and release it during peak demand, enhancing grid stability and supporting Chile’s energy transition.
VERBUND buys new wind project in Romania
VERBUND, an energy company from Austria, has bought a new wind power site in Romania. This new project adds to their clean energy work in Europe. VERBUND also bought solar and wind projects in Italy and Spain. These steps are part of the company’s goal to make more electricity from wind and solar by 2030. The company wants to grow its renewable energy projects and help provide clean power in different parts of Europe.
Kolkata to Get India’s Biggest EV Charging Hub
EzUrja is building India’s biggest electric vehicle charging hub in Thakurpukur, South Kolkata. It will have 300 chargers and will be the second-largest in the world after China’s 650-charger hub. The project will cost around ₹7.5 crore and is planned to open by August, before Durga Puja. The hub will support Snap-E’s 300 electric cabs. It will have both fast and slow chargers. To reduce power use from the grid, the hub will also use solar panels and a microgrid, aiming to produce 40 percent of its 6 MW power needs from renewable energy.
