Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements Iraq Energy Projects, Daanaa, Spruce Power, ChargePoint, Heerema, Aker Solutions, among others.

Iraq and U.S. Sign Deals for 27,000 MW Energy Projects, Including Solar

Iraq and the U.S. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for energy projects totaling 27,000 megawatts (MW). This includes 24,000 MW of power plants and a 3,000 MW solar project. The solar project will be developed with U.S.-based UGT Renewables. These agreements are part of Iraq’s plan to improve its energy system and reduce reliance on Iranian electricity. The deal follows the U.S. decision to end a sanctions waiver that allowed Iraq to pay Iran for energy, pushing Iraq to explore more domestic and international energy options for long-term energy security.

Daanaa Launches New Smart Power Converter

Daanaa Resolution has launched a new power device called the Power Transaction Unit (PTU). It can change high and low voltage levels in real time with over 95 percent efficiency. The PTU works with both AC and DC power and can handle voltage changes over 110 times. It is useful in areas like solar energy, electric vehicles, and computing. The device is small and can be connected with others for better performance and backup. It also adjusts automatically to changing power needs, helping systems run smoothly and with less energy loss.

Spruce Power to Help Sell Solar Energy Credits in California

Spruce Power has partnered with Hot Purple Energy to sell Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) in California. Spruce will handle the registration, monthly tracking, and selling of these credits through a system called WREGIS. New market rules in California now make it easier and more profitable to sell SRECs, similar to markets on the East Coast. Spruce is one of the few companies allowed to work in California’s top utility areas. It also plans to work with other solar companies to manage their SRECs.

ChargePoint Launches Faster Two-Way EV Chargers

ChargePoint has launched a new type of Level 2 EV charger that is faster and supports two-way charging. These chargers can give up to 19.2 kW of power, allowing an electric car to charge in about four hours — twice as fast as many other chargers. They also let energy flow both ways, so users can power their home or send electricity back to the grid. The chargers adjust based on a building’s power use and can work with solar panels and smart systems. They will be available in Europe by mid-2025 and in North America by the end of 2025.

Heerema Starts Offshore Wind Farm Removal Project

Heerema Marine Contractors has started a new project to remove old offshore wind farms. The goal is to take down wind turbines and other equipment in a safe and clean way. Heerema will use its experience in working at sea and heavy lifting to handle the removal. The company wants to reduce harm to the environment and recycle as many parts as possible. This project shows Heerema’s plan to support clean energy, not just when building wind farms, but also when they are no longer in use.

Aker Solutions Unveils Three New Floating Wind Platform Designs

Aker Solutions introduced three innovative floating wind platform designs, utilizing both steel and concrete materials. These designs aim to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in offshore wind energy production. With decades of experience in offshore structures, Aker Solutions is focusing on advancing floating wind technology to support the global shift towards renewable energy.
