BHEL inks Rs 1,202 crore EPC contract with KPCL

The state-run utility Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) announced its Rs 1,202 crore EPC contract for a Combined Cycle Power Plant with the Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL).

Moneycontrol .com reported that BHEL will be responsible for supplying as well as commissioning of a 370 Mw fuel-efficient Advanced-class Gas Turbine at Yelahanka near Bengaluru, Karnataka.

This apart, BHEL will also be responsible for the design, engineering, manufacture, construction and erection as well as testing of the EPC package.

BHEL will manufacture key apparatus at its various plants, while the southern region plant will execute civil works, erection and commissioning of the equipment.

This is the first gas-based power venture of KPCL. BHEL has supplied earlier for KPCL contributing to 74 percent of its established capacity.

So far BHEL has supplied 22 GTs to various firms.

Yelahanka CCPP will take care of the power needs of the Bengaluru city, in addition to addressing the environmental concerns of the state.

Another 3,100 Mw of ventures are currently under production by BHEL at Bellary, Yeramarus as well as Edlapur.

BHEL in joint venture with KPCL is providing 2×800 Mw Yeramarus TPS along with 1×800 Mw for Edlapur power assets under Raichur Power Corporation (RPCL).

In May 2014, BHEL commissioned a 160 mw gas-based power plant at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan for the state’s power generation company. The turbines used in Combined Cycle Plants are commonly fueled with natural gas.
