Ventas entitled a global sustainability leader by GRESB

Ventas has been acknowledged as a global leader for energy efficiency improvements on seniors housing and medical office building portfolios, with reduced operating costs by Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).

GRESB is a global benchmark that evaluates the sustainability performance of real estate portfolios. Ventas received this designation in the “Other” property category.

With the commitment to sustainability and high-quality, productive asset base, major gains in the operating efficiency of portfolio over the past two years has been achieved. Sustainability is a key corporate value at Ventas, stated,Debra A. Cafaro, chairman, CEO, Ventas.

GRESB credited the Company a total score of 74 compared with the global average of 47 and a North American average of 44, while assessing the performance.

Besides, Ventas was designated as a Green Star company for its resilient environmental measures. Ventas is one of only 227 Green Stars globally and one of 49 in North America.

The impact of sustainability has been significant to company’s bottom line, commented, Timothy A. Doman, senior VP, Ventas.

The future benefits to the company portfolio are prosperous and occupies continued commitment to sustainability and green portfolio, added Doman.

In 2013, company invested $3.82 million in 101 projects with an expected annual reduction of 6.1 million kWh of electricity consumption, which corresponds to $744,000 on electricity spending, and 98 million gallons of water consumption equal to $323,000 of spending.
