Orb Energy launches solar lighting kit for rural areas in India

By Greentech Lead Team: Orb Energy, a provider of solar
energy solutions, has launched a solar lighting kit for rural households.

The plug-and-play package includes a 5-W amorphous solar
panel, two 1.5W LED lamps, a console unit, a 12.8V lithium battery and a mobile
charging adapter. The user has to mount the solar panel on the roof or a
south-facing wall, fit the two lamps in ones house and plug them together to
the battery to use.

The solar lighting kit is available at Rs 4,990. Orb has
partnered with regional rural banks (RRBs). The tie up with RRBs helps users
take loans from these banks for purchasing the product. The company has
installed about 30,000 solar systems in the country through dealer and retail
channels, including in remote villages that have no access to grid electricity.

By using this system, a rural household will spend Rs
1.60 a solar light per day compared with Rs 6.25 a kerosene lantern per day,
resulting in a payback period of three years on the investment, according to a
report in
www.hindubusinessline.com.

Orb is also looking at exporting the product to countries
such as Nepal, Pakistan, East Africa in just a month after launch.
