Ash Improvement Technology inks agreement to treat ash and slag in Vietnam

Greentech Lead Team:

Ash Improvement Technology (AIT), a developer of solutions to convert waste ash
into beneficial products used in the construction industry, announced that it
has executed a 5-year contract with Shengli Steel of Vietnam to convert ash and
slag waste products into a cement substitute material.

AIT will convert approximately 60,000 tons of material annually from Shengli’s site
located in the Thai Binh province. AIT will utilize its CleanCem process to
treat coal ash for this plant.

“The
investment Shengli is making today is not only a proactive means to manage
waste materials for a profitable return, it is also a hedge against future
liabilities that are bound to happen,” said
Marc Zacharias, AIT’s CEO.

The CleanCem
process was developed to treat coal ash via introduction of additives in the
boiler system. Ash chemistry and mineralogy are modified in the process to
attain the performance of a high value cement substitute.

The
application of AIT’s patent pending CleanCem process avoids disposal of ash altogether,
and transforms an environmental liability into a source of revenue for owners
of power plants.

Vietnam
represents a sizeable opportunity for the application of AIT’s technology, with
more than ninety new coal-fired power plants currently under construction, and
a strong local demand for construction materials.
