Toshiba and Alstom Grid partner to develop smart grid solutions

Greentech Lead Japan: Toshiba has signed a memorandum of
understanding (MOU) with Alstom Grid, a provider of smart grid solutions, to
expand realize wide-ranging electricity management solutions that can be
applied in diverse regions and environments to achieve consistent outcomes and
support secure energy supply.

The two companies will investigate cooperation and
comprehensive collaboration drawing on their respective capabilities in smart
grid technologies and know-how.  

Alstom Grid delivers energy management system (EMS) for
managing balance of power generation and demand side.

Alstom also provides turnkey integrated power plant
solutions and associated services for a wide variety of energy sources,
including hydro, nuclear, gas, coal and wind, and it offers a wide range of
solutions for power transmission, with a focus on smart grids.  

Toshiba has strengths in customer-point power
distribution equipment and a product line-up that includes smart meters and
advanced storage batteries. These capabilities will provide the basis for
synergies between the companies.

Building on this partnership, Alstom Grid and Toshiba
plan to develop systems that support wide scale integration of renewable energy
sources into the grid and help to bring down the cost of power. They will also
consider how best to promote the smart grid business globally.

Alstom unveils new smart grid solutions at Cigre in Paris

Alstom recently announced the launch of five smart grid
products at the Cigre exhibition being held in Paris, France.

 

The new smart grid solutions include new generation of
digital substation solutions; e-terra 3.0 software platform for smart control
room; the DS Agile range, a latest generation of Digital Control Systems (DCS);
the MiCOM P40 Agile range of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs); and VL 109
72.5kV Vacuum Circuit Breaker.
