Universal Detection Technology to develop Smartphone compatible radiation detector and apps

By Greentech
Lead Team: Universal Detection Technology, a developer of early-warning
monitoring technologies that protect against biological, chemical, and
radiological threats, announced an update on the development of the Smartphone
compatible radiation detector.

UNDT
is developing the device through an agreement with Honeywell International.

The device will detect
elevated levels of gamma radiation on surfaces and food and automatically send
the collected data to a smartphone through a user-friendly application,
specifically designed to be used with the instrument.

The company
is also developing a smartphone app to control, collect and interpret the readings from the
detector. The app enables user
to use simple menu-driven
features to test for radiation in food, surfaces or clothing and subsequently
share the accumulated data with other users through a mapping and social
networking features.

The device
will utilize a Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillator for the detection of Gamma
rays.

“We are
very pleased with the level of progress on the development of the detector.
Both the detector and app are being developed with the end user in mind as we
are creating a device that will be unique in the radiation detection
industry,” said Jacques Tizabi, UNDT’s president and CEO.

Recently,
Universal Detection Technology received a purchase order
from the US Army for its biological detection equipment.
