Toshiba has appointed BHI Energy veteran Ali Azad as the first president and CEO of Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES).

He will be responsible for managing the establishment and operation portfolio of the new firm.

TAES will begin operations on April 1, 2015, employing around 500 people.

Before joining Toshiba, Azad was president of BHI Energy, guiding the total growth strategy, business development, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures of the company.

Currently, he is on the advisory board of the George F. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering as well as the chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s supplier advisory board.

Toshiba’s newly announced, US based TAES integrates the features of three existing businesses of Toshiba.

The firm combines Toshiba International Corporation’s (TIC) thermal and hydro power business, Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation’s (TANE) steam turbine and generator (STG) business for nuclear power systems, and Westinghouse Electric Company’s (WEC) STG business for nuclear power systems.

TAES will unify contacts for sales and services to offer customers with wide one-stop solutions.
