Egypt Advances 3.1 GW Sinai Solar and Pumped-Storage Energy Project

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has reviewed progress on a major 3.1 GW integrated clean-energy project in the Sinai Peninsula being advanced by a consortium led by Renergy Group Partners. The development combines large-scale photovoltaic generation with pumped-storage hydropower, providing both renewable electricity and dispatchable storage capacity. The hybrid architecture is designed to absorb surplus solar output and release electricity during periods of stronger demand, improving grid stability and reducing dependence on fossil-fuel generation. The project forms part of Egypt’s accelerating renewable-energy expansion as the country seeks to raise clean-energy penetration, strengthen energy security and attract private investment. At 3.1 GW, the proposed development would rank among Egypt’s largest integrated solar-and-storage infrastructure projects if it reaches construction and commercial operation.

FinDev Canada and DEG Invest $100 Million in MSU Green Energy Bond

FinDev Canada and Germany’s DEG have committed a combined USD 100 million to a green bond issued by Argentina-based MSU Green Energy, supporting expansion of renewable-generation and battery-storage infrastructure. The financing gives MSU additional long-term capital to develop and operate clean-energy assets while strengthening international institutional investment in Latin America’s energy transition. MSU Green Energy has built a portfolio centered on solar generation and is increasingly incorporating battery storage to improve dispatchability and electricity-market performance. Development finance institutions are becoming important sources of capital for renewable projects in emerging markets because their participation can help mobilize additional private investment and reduce financing risk. The USD 100 million commitment adds substantial funding for MSU’s growth strategy as Argentina seeks new power-generation investment and greater renewable-energy penetration.

Kazakhstan Starts Building 77 MW of SANY Turbines for Eni-KazMunayGas Hybrid Project

A wind-turbine equipment plant jointly backed by Kazakhstan sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna and China’s SANY Renewable Energy has started assembling equipment for a 77 MW wind order linked to a hybrid renewable-energy project led by Eni and KazMunayGas. The contract covers 10 turbines, implying an average unit rating of roughly 7.7 MW. Local turbine assembly is an important part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to capture more domestic economic value from renewable-energy investment while developing industrial capabilities alongside wind deployment. The project also demonstrates increasing use of large-capacity onshore turbines, allowing developers to achieve higher generation with fewer machines. Eni and KazMunayGas are expanding renewable-energy cooperation as Kazakhstan works to diversify its fossil-heavy electricity system and develop domestic wind, solar and hybrid projects.
