Low Carbon Wins UK Approval for 400 MW Beacon Fen Solar and Up to 600 MW Battery Project
Low Carbon has secured UK government planning approval for the 400 MW Beacon Fen Energy Park in Lincolnshire, clearing a major development milestone for one of England’s larger solar projects. The scheme includes a battery energy storage system of up to 600 MW and will connect to the National Grid through the Bicker Fen substation. Project material indicates the solar facility could supply electricity equivalent to more than 130,000 UK homes and avoid up to 72,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. The solar area covers about 517 hectares, while the grid-cable corridor extends roughly 13 km. Construction is expected to require around 24–36 months, strengthening Britain’s pipeline of large co-located solar and storage infrastructure.
OX2 Starts 135 MW Solar and 100 MW Battery Project on Former Australian Coal Site
OX2 has started construction of the Muswellbrook Solar Farm & Battery in New South Wales, combining 135 MWac of solar generation with a 100 MW BESS. Located in the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone on former coal-mining land, the project will generate around 347 GWh annually, sufficient for approximately 52,000 homes. Construction is expected to support about 200 jobs, with commercial operation targeted for 2028. The development covers roughly 482 hectares and will use approximately 300,000 photovoltaic panels. OX2 co-developed Muswellbrook with Idemitsu Australia and has secured a long-term hybrid PPA. OX2’s broader Australian development portfolio exceeds 3 GW across solar, wind and storage.
GE Vernova Wins 250 MW Supernode Stage 3 Battery Contract in Queensland GE Vernova has been selected by Quinbrook for Stage 3 of the Supernode Battery Energy Storage System at Brendale in Queensland. Stage 3 adds approximately 250 MW with around four hours of storage, taking the overall Supernode complex to roughly 780 MW and more than 3 GWh. Quinbrook previously secured a 15-year offtake agreement with Stanwell Corporation for Stage 3 and closed AUD 469 million of additional debt financing. Stages 1 and 2 already provide 520 MW / 1,858 MWh and entered commercial operation during 2026. Quinbrook expects total investment across the integrated Supernode energy and digital infrastructure campus to exceed AUD 3 billion, combining large batteries with hyperscale data-center capacity.
