Litgrid Signs 10-Year Wind Power Agreement for 100 GWh of Annual Grid Losses
Lithuanian electricity transmission operator Litgrid has signed a 10-year financial power purchase agreement with Joreta, a subsidiary of renewable-energy developer E energija group. Announced October 16 and reported October 19, the agreement covers up to 100,000 MWh of wind-generated electricity annually. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027. The electricity will be used to offset technological losses across Lithuania’s transmission network. Litgrid will continue purchasing physical electricity through the wholesale market, with financial settlements reflecting differences between contracted and market prices. The agreement supplements an existing renewable-electricity contract with Ignitis covering up to 160,000 MWh annually. Combined, the agreements provide contracted renewable-energy coverage of up to 260 GWh per year.
Rwanda Launches Tender for 200 MW Floating Solar Project with 800 MWh Battery Storage
Rwanda’s state-owned electricity holding company Rwanda Energy Group has launched prequalification for a 200 MW floating solar photovoltaic project with 200 MW/800 MWh battery storage. Announced October 19, the project will be developed at Lake Sake in Ngoma District, Eastern Province. The four-hour battery system will support electricity dispatch outside solar generation hours. The procurement will select independent power producers under a public-private partnership structure. The contract includes design, equipment supply, construction, commissioning, grid evacuation infrastructure and long-term operation. The selected developer will receive a 25-year power purchase agreement with Energy Development Corporation Limited. Prequalification applications close November 12, 2026. The planned construction and commissioning period is approximately 18 months.
PowerX Wins 10 MWh Battery Storage Contract from Tokai Rika in Japan
Japanese battery manufacturer PowerX has secured an equipment supply contract from automotive components producer Tokai Rika for a 10 MWh battery storage installation in Aichi Prefecture. Announced October 19, the project will use four PowerX Mega Power 2500 lithium iron phosphate battery units, each providing approximately 2,500 kWh of storage capacity. The installation will be located at Tokai Rika’s headquarters and manufacturing complex in Oguchi Town. Completion is scheduled for November 2027. The battery will reduce electricity costs through peak-demand management and charging during lower-price periods. This is the second battery storage agreement between PowerX and the Tokai Rika Group. Contract value and the facility’s rated power output were not disclosed.
