Fortescue Signs 20-Year Renewable Power Agreement to Supply 325 GWh Annually to PLS Group
Australian mining and energy company Fortescue has signed a 20-year electricity supply agreement with lithium producer PLS Group, making it the first external customer of Fortescue’s Green Grid in Western Australia. Announced October 27–28, the agreement covers at least 325 GWh of electricity annually, beginning in 2029. Fortescue will construct approximately 25 kilometres of 220 kV transmission infrastructure connecting PLS’ Pilgangoora operation to the network. PLS expects to invest approximately A$150 million in electricity connection and related infrastructure during FY2027–FY2029. The connection will provide more than 100 MW of transmission capacity. PLS expects electricity costs to decline by A$15–A$20 per tonne under its expansion programme.
EDP Signs 15-Year Solar Electricity Agreement with Motiva for 33.7 MW Project in Brazil
Portuguese electricity company EDP has signed renewable electricity agreements with Brazilian transportation infrastructure operator Motiva. Announced October 27–28, the contracts cover electricity from the 33.7 MW Novo Oriente VI solar project in São Paulo State. The agreements have a 15-year duration and will provide approximately 9 average megawatts of electricity, covering around 15 percent of Motiva’s consolidated annual electricity consumption. The photovoltaic facility is already operational, with deliveries to Motiva’s subsidiaries scheduled to begin in early 2027. The transaction uses a self-generation arrangement involving a consortium and project company controlled by EDP Renewables Brasil. Completion remains subject to customary conditions, including approval from Brazil’s competition authority.
UACJ Signs 20-Year Solar Power Agreement for 7.43 MW Project in Japan
Japanese aluminium manufacturer UACJ Corporation has entered into a 20-year solar electricity purchase agreement with Hokuriku Electric Power Biz Energy Solution for its manufacturing operations in Fukui Prefecture. The agreement was reported October 28. Electricity will be supplied from a newly developed 7.43 MW photovoltaic facility through a dedicated power connection beginning November 1, 2026. The solar park occupies approximately 75,197 square metres and contains 11,520 photovoltaic modules. Annual generation is estimated at 8.5 GWh. The project’s mounting structures incorporate recycled aluminium supplied by UACJ. The manufacturer expects the arrangement to reduce dependence on conventional electricity purchases while supporting lower-emission industrial production. Investment value and electricity tariff were not disclosed.
