Cubico Secures Approval for 147 MW Solar and 100 MW Battery Project in England
Renewable-energy investor Cubico Sustainable Investments has received development consent for its 147 MW Frodsham Solar project in Cheshire, England. The approval was issued on October 27, 2026. The development includes a co-located battery energy storage system with approximately 100 MW of discharge capacity. The project will have a grid export connection of up to 100 MW, alongside import capacity and a proposed private electricity connection serving nearby industrial customers. Located beside the existing Frodsham Wind Farm and Protos energy hub, the installation is expected to generate electricity equivalent to consumption by approximately 40,000 homes annually. Construction could support more than 100 full-time-equivalent jobs. Cubico will now advance detailed development and construction preparations.
Greenvolt Signs 20-Year Agreement for 25 MW Solar Carports at 120 Carrefour Stores in France
Portuguese renewable-energy company Greenvolt Group has signed a 20-year solar power purchase agreement with Carrefour Property to install photovoltaic carports across approximately 120 retail locations in France. Announced October 28, the programme involves approximately 25 MWp of solar capacity and 45,000 photovoltaic modules. Greenvolt Next will finance, develop, construct, operate and maintain the installations under a turnkey arrangement. The solar carports will generate electricity while providing covered parking facilities for retail customers. Carrefour Property selected Greenvolt Next following a national procurement process. Each installation will be designed around local parking layouts, grid connections and operational requirements. The companies expect the programme to reduce electricity costs and improve renewable-energy consumption across Carrefour’s property portfolio.
Statkraft Signs 114 GWh Annual Solar and Battery Power Agreement with Deutsche Bahn
Norwegian renewable-energy company Statkraft has signed a 10-year hybrid power purchase agreement with DB Energie, the electricity procurement subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. Announced October 27, the contract covers approximately 114 GWh of renewable electricity annually, beginning in January 2028. Electricity will come from the 107 MW Harnekop solar farm in Brandenburg, supported by a 35 MW/140 MWh battery storage system. The project is developed and operated by Sunovis. Battery charging will use electricity generated by the solar installation. Statkraft will manage battery dispatch and optimise electricity deliveries to match Deutsche Bahn’s requirements. Additional battery flexibility will be marketed through intraday and balancing electricity markets.
Microsoft Signs Two Solar Power Purchase Agreements with Blueleaf Energy in Japan
Microsoft has signed two long-term solar electricity purchase agreements with Blueleaf Energy, a renewable-energy platform owned by Macquarie Asset Management. Announced October 28, the contracts will support development of two photovoltaic projects in Japan, with Microsoft acting as the sole electricity offtaker. The projects will be developed under a build-own-operate structure, with commercial operation targeted for mid-2027. Macquarie coordinated the transactions through its energy markets team. The agreements extend a relationship covering approximately 540 MW of wind and solar capacity across projects in the United Kingdom, Spain and India. The companies did not disclose the Japanese projects’ capacities, investment values, locations or individual contract durations.
