Sungrow Commissions 10 MW/40 MWh Battery Storage System in Sri Lanka
Sungrow has announced operation of a 10 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system developed by WKV Hydro Technics in Galle, Sri Lanka. The facility entered commercial operation on September 10, 2026, with the technology deployment formally announced in October. WKV Group, a subsidiary of Khen Energy, selected Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled battery storage system. The installation provides four hours of electricity storage and supports grid balancing as Sri Lanka expands solar and wind generation. The country’s electricity development programme targets 70 percent renewable generation by 2030. The battery will support electricity supply during evening demand periods and provide rapid-response storage capacity. Investment value was not disclosed.
Keiyo Gas Commissions First 2 MW/8 MWh Grid-Scale Battery Project in Japan
Japanese utility Keiyo Gas has started commercial operation of its first domestic grid-scale battery storage facility, a 2 MW/8 MWh installation in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture. The project entered service on October 1, 2026. The facility is owned by KG BESS, a special-purpose company established by Keiyo Gas and its real estate subsidiary. Sun Village developed and constructed the project, while Marubeni Power Retail will manage electricity-market participation and optimisation. The battery provides four hours of storage at rated output. Keiyo Gas also has an investment in the 200 MW/521.4 MWh Pintail battery project in the United States. The Japanese installation expands its electricity storage operations alongside existing solar and hydropower investments.
Amprion Raises €1.5 Billion Through Green Bonds for German Electricity Grid Expansion
German electricity transmission operator Amprion has issued €1.5 billion in green bonds to finance transmission network expansion and modernisation. The transaction comprises two €750 million tranches, with maturities of six and ten years. The six-year bonds carry a 4.398 percent annual coupon, while the ten-year bonds pay 4.838 percent. Both tranches will be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange’s Euro MTF market. The issuance was arranged under Amprion’s €25 billion debt issuance programme and completes its planned bond financing for 2026. Proceeds will be allocated exclusively to qualifying sustainable electricity-grid projects, including infrastructure required to connect renewable generation and accommodate increasing electricity demand from industrial electrification and other consumers.
