PPC Renewables Plans 40 MW/80 MWh BESS in Romania
PPC Renewables will install a 40-MW/80-MWh battery energy storage system at its 70-MW Corugea wind farm in Casimcea, Tulcea county, Romania. The project represents an investment of RON 87.4 million (USD 19 million/EUR 16.7 million), including RON 9.97 million in European co-financing through the EU Modernisation Fund. The Corugea wind farm comprises 35 turbines and generates around 190 GWh of electricity annually. The new BESS will smooth wind generation and improve output predictability. The project follows PPC Renewables’ battery hybridisation initiative at the Colibasi solar farm. The company plans to add further storage capacity during 2026 as it expands its Romanian renewable energy portfolio, which is approaching 2 GW of installed capacity.
SMA Altenso and RheinEnergie Commission 64 MWh Battery in Germany
SMA Altenso and RheinEnergie have commissioned a 24.5-MW/64-MWh battery energy storage facility in Einbeck, central Germany. Strategically positioned between strong wind generation in northern Germany and major electricity consumers in the south, the battery will store surplus renewable power and release electricity during periods of higher demand. The system will provide primary and secondary frequency control services and participate in day-ahead and intraday electricity trading. RheinEnergie Trading will market the storage capacity. Altenso served as the engineering, procurement and construction partner, handling planning and construction while also providing operations management and maintenance services. The 64-MWh facility strengthens grid flexibility, supports efficient renewable energy use and improves electricity flows across Germany’s north-south power system.
Onde to Build 300 MW BESS for R.Power in Poland
Polish renewables company Onde has signed a PLN 117.8 million (USD 31 million/EUR 27 million) net contract to build a 300-MW/1,200-MWh battery energy storage system for R.Power in Poland. The agreement covers Balance of Plant works, a 400-kV main collection point and a high-voltage line, with commissioning planned for 2027. Onde will prepare detailed documentation and supply materials and equipment, excluding the energy storage system. The companies have previously delivered over 100 PV installations totalling approximately 200 MW. R.Power’s flagship Polish BESS portfolio also includes 150-MW/300-MWh Jedwabno, 250-MW/1,000-MWh Gdansk, 300-MW/1,200-MWh Dziegielewo and 300-MW/1,200-MWh Czekanow projects, strengthening Poland’s rapidly expanding energy storage market.
