Wind technology company Gamesa in pact with Toyota Spain to roll out electric cars

Greentech Lead Europe: Wind energy technology and
solutions provider Gamesa announced partnership with Toyota Spain to accelerate
the use of electric cars with lithium ion batteries in urban Spain, EVwind
reports.

Under the terms of this energy-efficient mobility
partnership, Gamesa will test the Toyota Prius Plug In technology and charging
infrastructure for mass rollout. Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle technology improves
fuel efficiency and reduces harmful emissions.

“The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid combines the benefits of an
electric vehicle for short journeys -with zero emissions and zero fuel
consumption- and the unlimited driving range of a hybrid vehicle with a petrol
engine,” according to Jacques Pieraerts, president and CEO of Toyota
Spain.
As part of this initiative, Toyota Spain is lending Gamesa a plug-in hybrid
vehicle for a six-month period.

During this period, the company can test and verify the
car’s technology, identify potential limiting factors and analyze its charging
requirements in order to facilitate the mass market rollout of electric
vehicles in Spain in the near term.

The company will share the test drive data regarding the
energy efficiency and technology with Toyota Spain to furnish information for
the Movele initiative, coordinated by the Institute for Energy Diversification
and Savings (IDEA). The initiative is working on demonstrating the technical,
energy and financial viability of this class of cars, and Toyota is a member of
this initiative.

“These energy efficient cars with their reduced carbon footprints can and
must contribute short and medium term to the energy saving and environmental
protection imperative and to verifying the enormous synergies between wind
energy and green mobility”, said David Mesonero, Gamesa’s director of
Corporate Development.

Gamesa to invest $60 million in power transmission
infrastructure in India

Recently Gamesa announced it will invest $60 million in
power transmission infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, India. The company plans to
build a 400-kilovolt substation that will help distribute 750 MW of power in
Tamil Nadu. Gamesa is the third-biggest supplier of turbines in India. In the
last financial year, 93 percent of the capacity Gamesa installed in India was
in Tamil Nadu.
