Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks have announced a collaboration to electrify over 100 Starbucks stores in the United States.

The initial phase will see the co-location of industry-leading 400 kW electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Starbucks stores along Interstate 5 (I-5), a key west coast travel corridor stretching from Canada to Mexico. The companies aim to explore further opportunities in urban areas, charging deserts, and other critical travel corridors.

Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “The collaboration between two leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will uplift the charging experience for all EV drivers.”

Michael Kobori, Starbucks Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighted Starbucks’ commitment to renewable energy projects, noting, “Partnering with Mercedes is the next step in expanding our EV charging network so our customers can refuel sustainably while they enjoy Starbucks.”

Both Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks prioritize sustainability. Starbucks aims to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and currently offers EV charging at over 1,000 U.S. stores. This partnership will further expand Starbucks’ EV charging network, promoting renewable energy and clean technology while enhancing the customer experience.

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging supports Mercedes-Benz Groups goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2039. The network, powered by clean energy, launched its first site in November 2023 as part of a $1 billion investment to build a premier charging network. It has since expanded to locations across Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky, with plans to cover nearly half of the U.S. within the next 12-18 months.
