On World Environment Day, Vedanta reaffirmed its commitment to clean energy by scaling its renewable energy capacity to 1.03 GW through round-the-clock power delivery agreements.

The company has set a target of 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 as a crucial step toward achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. The current renewable mix includes wind, solar, and pumped storage, with the potential to offset over 6 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually — equivalent to the carbon absorption of nearly 350 million trees.

Vedanta, India’s largest producer of energy transition metals and critical minerals, is aligning its decarbonization strategy with the nation’s clean energy goals. Its low-carbon product lines — Restora and Restora Ultra in aluminium, and EcoZen in zinc — are vital enablers of renewable energy infrastructure and electric mobility.

The company’s sustainability roadmap is built on four pillars: expanding renewable energy, transitioning to low-carbon fuels, enhancing energy and process efficiencies, and deploying carbon offset programs. Vedanta has already consumed 2.61 billion units of renewable energy and introduced green logistics solutions including lithium-ion forklifts, LNG-powered trucks, and India’s first battery-operated vehicles for underground mining.

Further supporting circular economy initiatives, Vedanta has used 44,000 tonnes of biomass and helped establish Punjab’s largest torrefied bio-pellets facility. Since 2021, it has planted nearly 3 million trees and launched a mass plantation drive across several states this year. Additionally, three of its business units are now water positive, and three others have eliminated single-use plastic.

Vedanta’s strong sustainability performance has earned it a ‘B’ rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for both water security and climate action. Its aluminium and zinc products are Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) verified, reflecting transparency in environmental footprint, and it actively supports responsible sourcing through the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative.
