Prosolia Starts 60 MWh Portugal BESS
Prosolia Energy has commissioned a 15-MW/60-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Albispark solar farm in Castelo Branco, Portugal, marking the company’s first utility-scale solar-plus-storage project. The battery has been integrated with an existing 34.4-MWp solar plant and is connected directly to Portugal’s 150-kV high-voltage transmission grid. The solar facility generates more than 50 GWh annually, while the 4-hour battery can store surplus renewable electricity for delivery during periods of higher demand. Backed by Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, the project will also enable participation in ancillary-services markets. Prosolia says Albispark is among the largest operational battery storage systems in Portugal and represents an important step in its broader European energy-storage strategy.
AfDB Backs Morocco Battery Gigafactory with €100m
The African Development Bank has approved a €100 million loan to Gotion Power Morocco to develop an integrated lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery gigafactory in Morocco’s Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Free Trade Zone. The bank also plans to mobilise up to €141 million from additional financial partners. Led by Gotion High-Tech, the project will initially produce 10 GWh of battery cells and packs for electric vehicles, with plans to eventually expand capacity to 100 GWh. The facility is expected to become the first integrated battery manufacturing plant in Africa and the MENA region. Its first phase is projected to create more than 600 direct jobs and achieve a 70 percent local industrial integration rate, strengthening Morocco’s position in global battery, electric-mobility and clean-energy supply chains.
ACME Solar Commissions 3.62 GWh BESS in Rajasthan ACME Solar Holdings has commissioned 3.62 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at renewable energy projects in Rajasthan, India, marking a major addition to the country’s rapidly expanding storage capacity. The batteries are integrated with ACME Solar’s renewable energy assets and will help store surplus clean electricity for delivery when generation is lower or demand is higher. The large-scale deployment strengthens grid flexibility and supports more reliable integration of variable solar and wind generation. With 3.62 GWh of storage now commissioned, ACME Solar is expanding its role beyond renewable power generation into firm and dispatchable clean-energy solutions. The development also supports India’s broader push to deploy energy storage as renewable capacity grows and the electricity system requires greater balancing capability.
