Siemens has inked chartering deal with ship owner Bernhard Schulte to build two service operations vessels (SOV) for service and maintenance operations of Gemini and Sandbank / Dan Tysk offshore wind power plants in North Sea.
Siemens did not share the financial details of the deal.
Ulstein Verft Norway will build the two new SOVs which will become operational in 2016 and 2017 when both the Gemini and Sandbank offshore wind projects are scheduled to begin operations. Vessel for the Sandbank project can also be utilized for Siemens’ service operations for the nearby Dan Tysk wind farm already in operation.
“By improving efficiencies in our service operations we can help customers realize performance from their turbines, contributing to advancing the competiveness of offshore wind energy for the future,” said Mark Albenze, CEO, Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Services Business Unit.
Siemens is planning to utilize its first two SOVs commissioned for the Butendiek and Baltic II offshore wind projects in Germany this year.
