Scout Clean Energy has finalized a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Zoetis for a 50 MW portion of Scout’s operational Heart of Texas Wind Farm.
This segment constitutes over one-fourth of the total capacity of the 180 MW project, which generates sufficient electricity annually to power approximately 67,000 homes.
Michael Rucker, Chief Executive Officer, and Founder at Scout, said: “Heart of Texas is an exceptional project and will deliver significant value to Zoetis as it strives towards carbon neutrality.”
Heart of Texas Wind Farm, situated in McCulloch County and constructed in 2020, is operated by Scout, a portfolio company under the management of Brookfield Asset Management. The project contributes to the local economy through tax incentive agreements with McCulloch County, McCulloch County Hospital District, and Lohn Independent School District.
The VPPA aligns with Zoetis’ roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030. The 12-year term contract not only secures a renewable energy source but also generates Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which will aid in reducing Zoetis’ emissions as part of the RE100 initiative.
“Through this Virtual Power Purchase Agreement, we are not only securing renewable energy but also advancing our efforts to minimize our carbon footprint,” Jeannette Ferran Astorga, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Communications, and Chief Sustainability Officer at Zoetis, said.
