The utility Southern California Edison (SCE) has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Iberdrola Renewables. The latter will be providing power from the Tule Wind Power Project in the McCain Valley of eastern San Diego County, a statement said.

SCE is expected to purchase the entire output from the 132-megawatt wind farm, when Iberdrola is to complete in late 2017. The Tule project, spread out on roughly 14,000 acres in San Diego, is to be comprised of 67 wind turbines.

The new project will produce adequate power to meet the average power requirements of about 40,000 households covered by SCE. And the project can prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the output of 50,000 cars annually.

Recently, the global e-commerce giant Amazon had announced that it planned to purchase power from a 208-megawatt wind farm being developed by Iberdrola in North Carolina.

Output from the wind farm, expected to be operational by next December, will meet the power requirements of existing data centers of Amazon.

Spanish manufacturer Gamesa received the supply contract for the project taken up by Iberdrola for Amazon.

Gamesa stated that it would install 104 of its 2-megawatt G114 model wind turbines at the project named Amazon Wind Farm US East.

The company is expected to begin turbine delivery by the second quarter and commission the project by the end of next year.

Turbine deliveries are expected to begin in Q2 of 2016, with the project to be commissioned before the end of 2016.

The wind park will be spread out across then Perquimans and Pasquotank counties in North Carolina.

Gamesa reported signed orders for the supply of nearly 1,500 MW in countries including Sweden, Uruguay, the US, Poland and Brazil.

With the order from Amazon, the capacity Gamesa has supplied to Iberdrola Renewables rose to about 2,300 MW in the United States. And across the US, the wind turbine manufacturer has installed more than 4,000 MW of projects.
