Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES Americas) announced that it will sell the 114 MW of wind energy generated from the Deerfield Wind Energy project to Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative.

A power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed between RES Americas subsidiary RES America Developments and Wolverine.

Located in Huron County, Michigan, the project is spread in 20,000 acres in the townships of Huron, Bloomfield, Dwight, and Lincoln. It will provide up to 200 jobs during the peak of construction and up to six permanent jobs once construction is completed.

More than 215 local landowners are also participating in Deerfield Wind Energy. They will receive landowner royalty payments from the project.

RES Americas, the developer of the project, will be responsible for the construction. The project is scheduled to reach commercial operation by December 31, 2016.

Glen Davis, chief executive officer of RES Americas, said, “Wolverine’s commitment to purchase the Deerfield Wind Energy project’s electrical output will bring investment and jobs to the state and local community that have supported us through the development cycle.”

According to Eric Baker, president and CEO of Wolverine, the project will help Wolverine and its member companies to meet Michigan’s Renewable Portfolio Standard requirement of 10 percent renewable power supply by 2015.

Wolverine supplies wholesale electric power to seven members.
