NeXtWind has finalized the acquisition of ten wind farms from Qualitas Energy Deutschland, solidifying its foothold in Germany’s green energy market.
These wind farms span across strategic locations in Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt, comprising over 60 wind turbines.
NeXtWind Co-CEO Lars Meyer expressed enthusiasm about the accelerated growth, stating, “We are surpassing our growth projections. With this acquisition and several other smaller transactions, we are on track to achieve our strategic milestone of providing one gigawatt of green energy to the market much earlier than anticipated.”
NeXtWind’s plans include the repowering of existing wind turbines, replacing older units with the latest generation of modern turbines. This initiative aims to triple the energy output from these sites, a move that has already received partial regulatory approvals. The upgraded turbines are projected to cater to the energy needs of up to 400,000 households, substantially reducing carbon emissions by over one million tonnes annually.
Germany holds a dominant position in the onshore wind market in Europe, boasting an installed electricity generation capacity of approximately 58 gigawatts by the end of 2022, as reported by consulting firm Deutsche Windguard. Notably, about 30 percent of this capacity, accounting for approximately 13,000 wind turbines, surpass the 15-year mark and necessitate replacement with newer, more efficient models.
