Minnesota Power commissions 4th phase of 205 MW Bison Wind Energy farm

Minnesota Power has commissioned the fourth phase of 205-MW Bison Wind Energy wind farm located in south-central North Dakota.

Through the completion, the farm has achieved a total generating capacity of nearly 500 MW.

The project was expanded at an estimated cost of $345 million.

The Bison phase 4 includes 64 wind turbines that deliver power through a 465-mile direct current transmission line between North Dakota and Minnesota substations.

The first three phases of the Bison Wind Energy Center include 101 wind turbines with a combined electric generating capacity of 292 MW.

The North Bison phase 4 constructions began in 2013.

Bison 4 was developed as part of Minnesota Power’s strategic EnergyForward plan to expand its energy supply while enhancing renewable energy production.
