Greenko Group expands wind portfolio, completes 15 MW farm in Mangalore

Greenko Group, a Hyderabad-based clean energy development company, has completed a 15-MW wind farm  in Mangalore, in southern Karnataka, Bloomberg News reported recently.

The energy from the project will be sold directly to a commercial customer in Bangalore under a 10-year contract. The project worth 13 million-euro ($18 million) uses 1.5-MW turbines from ReGen Powertech.

Greenko Group is backed by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund. The company has set a target of achieving 700 MW by mid 2014. Currently the company has achieved 233 MW in operation, 372.6 MW under construction and over 550 MW in development.

Some of the key projects from Greenko include Tanot Wind project, a 120-MW project located near Jaisalmer in the State of Rajasthan; Kanhur Wind project, a 120-MW project located near Ahmednagar in the State of Maharashtra; Matrix Wind, the 15 MW wind project in Karnataka, Fortune Five Wind Project, of over 200 MW, in Bijapur district of Karnataka; Rayala Wind, of more than 300 MW of capacity in Ananthapur dist in Andhra Pradesh, and Ratnagiri Wind Power, of about 102 MW in capacity, in Maharashtra.

Greenko recently announced it will acquire Lanco’s 70 MW hydel plant in Himachal Pradesh for about 77 million euros. The Budhil 70 MW hydro power plant is near to the company’s existing assets.

The clean energy developer is also in the process of acquiring two other projects — IKU-2 and Baner-3. Each project, with a generation capacity of 5 MW, is expected to be completed later this year.
