The Arkansas Electric (AECC) has secured a long-term power purchase agreement with the Origin Wind Farm in southeast Oklahoma to provide 150 megawatts of wind energy.

The energy will come from a 75-turbines owned and operated by Enel Green Power North America in Andover, Massachusetts.

The annual output from the farm will be 650,000 megawatt-hours, enough to serve about 50,000 homes.

AECC will be the only recipient of the generated electricity.

According to the power purchase agreement, AECC access to 201 megawatts of wind energy and the other 51 megawatts come from agreements with BP and U.S. Gas & Power from South Wind Farm in Kansas.

AECC has access to more than 459 megawatts of energy via hydroelectric generating stations and power purchase agreements in addition to our base load assets, said, Duane Highly, president, CEO, AECC.

The company explores energy options to provide the 500,000 electric cooperative members in Arkansas with reliable, affordable energy, he added.
National Renewables Cooperative Organization of Carmel, Indiana has made the purchase agreement possible with Origin Wind Farm.

It allows cooperatives to group the ownership and benefits of renewable resources. AECC is one of 25 NRCO members.
