Dimension Data, the $5.8 billion global ICT solutions and services provider, has been just awarded a score of 94 (out of 100) by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for disclosure of its climate change strategy.

This is the sixth year that Dimension has responded to CDP’s questionnaire, and 94 is the highest score to date, said Colin Curtis, global director for sustainability  at Dimension Data.

“We are firmly committed to looking at ways that information and communication technology (ICT) can tackle not only economic, but also environmental and social issues in our own business and for our clients,” Curtis added.

The score is once again comparable to the top 10 percent of FTSE 350 companies that make up the FTSE 350 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, said Daniel Turner, head of disclosure at CDP.

“This improved rating shows that Dimension Data continues to honor its high level of commitment to tackling climate change, and that it understands the risks and opportunities represented by a changing world,” Turner said.

Dimension Data is no longer obligated to participate in the CDP report since it delisted from the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges in 2010. However, the company continues its commitment to making a voluntary submission every year so that it can measure its own sustainability and related reporting, officials at Dimension Data said.

According to the Global e-Sustainability Initiative, the use of ICT could cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 16.5 percent, amounting to $1.9 trillion dollars in energy and fuel savings by 2020.

Over the past 12 months, Dimension Data was able to further reduce travel, energy and waste within the organization, and encourage its employees to make a positive contribution to society through sustainable initiatives such as e-waste weeks, “Meatless Monday” and “Grow your own dinner”.

Earlier this year, Dimension Data was also named a Leader in the Green Quadrant Sustainable Technology Services report by Verdantix for having a dedicated sustainability practice, a wide range of capabilities, and a strong track record in corporate sustainability.
