TrinaTracker, the Single Axis Tracker manufacturer subsidiary of Trina Solar, has signed an 875MW solar tracker supply contract with Samsung C&T (SSCT), for Qatar’s largest solar plant — the industrial cities solar power project (IC Solar).

The contract is for the supply of two solar photovoltaic plants,417MW in Mesaieed Industrial City, and 458MW Ras Laffan Industrial City. Both projects are expected to reach commercial operation at the end of 2024.

The plants will supply power to energy intensive facilities in the industrial complex owned by QatarEnergy and Qatar’s national electrical grid.

The Qatar IC Solar project was developed by petroleum company QatarEnergy, and Samsung C&T will be responsible for Engineering, procurement and Construction (EPC). The project plans to use 13,849 Trina Vanguard 2P solar trackers.

Once the project commences commercial operations, Qatar will increase its renewable energy capacity to 1.68GW.
