Kyocera Solar has announced that Sundance Power Systems has installed 650 KW (DC) of Kyocera solar modules on Sierra Nevada Brewing, North Carolina brewery.

These modules will provide power for brewery’s energy-intensive processes. This installation will place Sierra Nevada beers among environment- friendly brewed beverages available.

The 2,030 Kyocera KD320 PV solar modules will be installed atop the new brewery’s packaging center and warehouse.
Kyocera has expertise in catering to solar applications from residential rooftops to utility-scale PV plants.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Kyocera PV modules will offset 588 metric tons of carbon, equivalent to removing 124 cars from the road over a year.

Steve Hill, president, Kyocera Solar, said, “Kyocera has been in the solar industry for nearly four decades, and is committed to helping commercial enterprises operate in a sustainable fashion. We ‘raise our glass’ to Sierra Nevada for utilizing the abundant power of the sun to brew its delicious beers, and stand ready to assist other companies in following these sustainable footsteps.”

Sierra Nevada believes in “reduce, reuse, recycle” policy, with commitment towards operating an environmentally sustainable enterprise, the company said.

Integrating renewable energy into the facility was an important part of the project design and now long- term renewable energy production can be expected from this system, said, Cheri Chastain, sustainability manager, Sierra Nevada Brewing.

For craft brewers this solar acquirement is a step toward economic independence, sustainability and simpler living.

Sierra Nevada will host its first public event for its Mills River brewery when the company’s Beer Camp across America makes its grand finale in North Carolina, attended by more than 110 regional craft breweries on 3rd August.
