Meton Energy, a joint venture between RWE and PPC, has decided to make investment to build two new photovoltaic projects totaling 567 MWp in Central Macedonia, Greece, with construction starting in spring 2025 and commissioning in 2027.

The €418 million investment will be supported by €175 million from EU RRF funds and €169 million in commercial debt from Greek banks.

Power Purchase Agreements have been signed with PPC and RWE Supply & Trading. Progress continues on previously announced 940 MWp projects in Western Macedonia, with 210 MWp already energized and more expected by the end of 2025.

This expansion brings their total solar capacity in development in Greece to approximately 1.5 GW, contributing significantly to the country’s energy transition and job creation.

RWE Renewables Europe & Australia (51 percent) and PPC Renewables (49 percent) have energised 5 solar farms (210 MWp in total) and finished construction of a 6th project (315 MWp completed in total) with energization expected in due course.

Further 3 solar farms (625 MWp) are planned to be operational by the end of 2025. These nine solar projects have a total capacity of 940 MWp (870 MWac) and are located in Western Macedonia in Northern Greece, within the boundaries of the former Amynteo opencast lignite mine.
